Unsatisfactory Bargaining in 2020
A Disappointing Deal
In early 2020, Local 79 concluded its bargaining with the City of Toronto and entered into an unprecedented 5 year agreement. Our wages have been significantly affected by inflation over the lifespan of this agreement.
Negotiated increases:
-
January 1, 2020 1.00% added to base
-
January 1, 2021 1.00% added to base
-
January 1, 2022 1.00% added to base
-
January 1, 2023 1.50% added to base
-
July 1, 2023 0.25% added to base
-
January 1, 2024 1.75% added to base

When applied to your hourly wage this means:
-
$20/hr in 2020 dollars is now $18/hr in purchasing power
-
$30/hr in 2020 dollars is now $27/hr in purchasing power
-
$40/hr in 2020 dollars is now $36/hr in purchasing power
You deserve more. Our team will negotiate a better collective agreement that includes the real effects of inflation on our wages.
